The Mountaineers fell to the North Buncombe Blackhawks on Thursday night at North Buncombe. Their conference record stands at 1-3.
The Blackhawks opened the scoring with a run in the first inning on a Max Mull groundout.
The Mountaineers evened the score with a run when Luke Williamson and Hayden Driver teamed up to tie the score. Williamson singled, stole second and scored when Driver singled to left field. It proved not to be enough.
Clay Burgess also singled for the lone other hit for Tuscola.
North Buncombe took the lead for good when it scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
North Buncombe starting pitcher Jake Deneef dominated the Mountaineers, pitching six strong innings and holding Tuscola to only three hits while striking out 18.
Mountaineers starting pitcher Jared Penland suffered the complete game loss, surrendering only four runs, only one earned, four hits and striking out five over six 6 innings.
Tuscola played at home Tuesday against T.C. Roberson and will compete Friday night away versus West Henderson.
