Tuscola’s varsity and JV Cheer teams competed in the Mountain Pre-State Regional Competition, hosted by Enka high school, on Oct. 26. Several area high schools including T.C. Roberson, AC Reynolds, Franklin, Enka, North Henderson and Erwin competed in the Pre-State Competition.
Tuscola’s cheer program, under the guidance of Tammy Bates, earned the Rock Solid award for the strongest overall program in the competition. The Mountaineers’ varsity cheerleaders achieved the highest score in the competition, with a score of 70. In the JV competition, Tuscola’ s squad placed second behind Northeast Guilford with a score of 62.3.
“I’m extremely pleased with how both teams performed in the competition,” Bates said. “The varsity team score is the highest we have achieved in the past few years. I’m very proud that the judges recognized our school with the Rock Solid award for the overall strength of the program. The girls have been working hard since we started camp at Clemson on Aug. 1, and I’m glad to see all their hard work pay off.”
Tuscola’s cheer squads will now focus on competing in the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational on Dec. 7 in Raleigh.
