For the second game in a row and third in its first four, Tuscola boys soccer came up with a victory Wednesday night, topping Swain County 3-1 at home to improve to 3-0-1 on the season.
The Mountaineers started fast with two goals in the first 10 minutes. Bryan Rios cashed in a feed from Martin Tox in the first five minutes, followed by Nolan Martin with a strike from the outside.
Ben Mehaffey added an insurance marker in the second half as the Mountaineers looked to improve their play with the lead, and goalie Miekell McBride took a shutout into the final 10 minutes before the Maroon Devils scored to break it up.
Tuscola will face Asheville Christian Academy in a road tilt Thursday.
“We still have a few things to work on for consistency before conference starts next week,” said head coach Ian Meeks. “Hopefully tomorrow against ACA we can get back settled into our game plan. I’m proud of the effort from the boys and maturity from last year. We’ll be missing some tomorrow due to injuries and will be counting again on quality minutes off the bench.”
