KEEPER — Tuscola goalkeeper Miekell McBride makes a diving stop during the team’s season opener against Brevard Monday.

Tuscola boys soccer's JV and varsity teams picked both picked up wins at Patton Tuesday night.

JV won 3-2, controlling play in the offensive zone for much of the game. Selvin Pan opened the scoring in the game's first five minutes with a goal off a cross from Sam Edwards, and Isaac Muri added another tally late in the half.

Johnny Caal scored off a free kick from outside the box in the second half.

"The boys played great together and finished off their first win this year strong," said Tuscola head coach Ian Meeks via email.

Varsity also came up with a victory, with a strong second half following a fairly even first.

"At halftime I stressed the importance of being patient for our chances," Meeks said. "In the second half the boys were much more composed, found their passing lanes, and took their time to find openings to finish."

Alex Martin opened Tuscola's scoring with a pair of goals on free kicks in the second half, while Wes Leichssenring also tallied. Goalie Miekell McBride piled up eight saves for the Mountaineers.

"The boys played the best they have all season and came together to complete a strong night on the pitch," Meeks said.
