MASTERS SWIMMERS — Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club Masters Swimmers Debbie Wilson, Ann Sims and Gerald Meyer each performed extremely well at the Masters State Championships in Cary last month.

CARY — Three Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club (SMAC) Masters Swimmers set state records and earned Age Group High Point Awards at North Carolina Short Course Masters State Championships at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary last month.

Debbie Wilson, Ann Sims and Gerald Meyer competed and achieved great results during the two-day swim meet, which was attended by over 100 Masters Swimmers.

Debbie Wilson set a North Carolina Masters Swimming record in the 1,650-free (23:00.25) for women between the ages of 65-69. Ann Sims set a North Carolina Masters Swimming record in the 1,000-free (14:00.71) for the Women 65-69 age group. Sims also won the 200-breast in Women 65-69 and achieved the high point trophy for the Women 65-69

Gerald Meyer, meanwhile competed in seven events in the Men’s 70-74 Age Group.

Meyer finished first in 100-back, 200-breast, 200-IM, 200-back, and second in the 50-breast and 200-frees. He was awarded the High Point Trophy for Men 70-74.

Wilson, Sims and Meyer train with the SMAC Masters Swimmers at the Waynesville Recreation Center Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:30 am to noon.

Coach Scott Simmons provides the coaching.

All adult swimmers are invited to join the Masters Swimmers at the Waynesville Recreation Center, 550 Vance Street, Waynesville.
