GREENSBORO — The Pisgah track and field team competed in three events at the Class 2A State Championships at N.C. A&T May 19.
Though the Bears didn’t place in any of those events, they still enjoyed decent showings across the board.
Junior Carter Binkley finished ninth in the 800m with a time of 2:02.63. Junior Kameron Walker – competing in his first season as a track and field athlete – finished 14th in the shot put.
The 4x200m relay team, consisting of junior Lee Ferguson, freshman Levi Cagle, freshman Cain Early and junior Tanner Wike – placed 15th with a time of 1:34.02.
That group had broken a 31-year old school record at the Class 2A West Regional Championships May 12 with a time of 1:33.45.
The state meet marked the end of head coach Ricky Brindley’s first season at the helm of the track and field program.
He helped lead the 4x200m relay team to a Mountain Six title, qualified eight athletes in six events at the Class 2A West Regional Championships, and sent six athletes to three total events at the Class 2A State Championships.
Perhaps the best news for Brindley and the Pisgah track and field program is that all six of its state qualifiers are set to return for the 2019 season.
