APEX — Last Saturday, three stunt groups from the Pisgah cheerleading team participated in the NCCCA Championships.
Each group was fronted by a different team leader: Lilly Ensley, Maycie Henry and Adison Spivey were each in charge of their own five-girl squads.
The Bears competed in the all-girl stunt division, which requires a “one-minute routine of straight stunting,” as Pisgah head coach Tammy P. Ensley put it.
Lilly Ensley’s squad placed third, while Henry’s finished fourth and Spivey’s seventh.
Additionally, three Pisgah junior cheerleaders — Ensley, Callie Jorstad and Trinity Norton — were named to the NCCCA All-Region team. That trio will try out for the NCCCA all-state team this Sunday.
Tammy P. Ensley, who’s in her 14th year at the helm of the Pisgah cheerleading program, has been a member of the NCCCA for a decade.
She was named Coach of the Year in 2014 and has had cheerleaders chosen for the All-Region team every season.
Ensley also has had nine All-State selections during her tenure. She’s hoping to add to that number Sunday.
