Each year the Pisgah Athletic Boosters awards two $1,000 annual scholarships, one to a male student athlete and one to a female student athlete.

The requirements for the scholarship are that the recipient must be a Pisgah senior/student athlete and in good standing with Pisgah High School.

The scholarships are awarded in two installments — $500 for the first fall semester and $500 for the first spring semester for each recipient.

Normally, the scholarship winners would be announced at the annual Draw Down. Because of the delay in the Draw Down event caused by the coronavirus, the announcement did not occur.

The group received more applicants this year than in any prior year and leaders noted all the applicants were deserving of the scholarship, said Mark Pinkston, club president.

The ultimate decision was to award the 2020 Pisgah Athletic Boosters Scholarships to Xitlali (“Lali”) Martin and Cameron James Bailey.

Draw Down

After much deliberation, the Pisgah Athletic Boosters decided to cancel the 2020 Draw Down event. The 2021 Draw Down will be held on May 22, 2021, in the Pisgah High School cafeteria.

Based on the orders of the Governor, a decision has been made to reopen Pisgah Athletic Boosters meetings to all members at its meeting scheduled for Nov. 3, subject to applicable restrictions and recommendations which remain in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

New this year is the Pisgah Athletic Boosters online store for new Pisgah fan gear. The store is through Cook’s Sports and will be open until Nov. 8. Fans may access the online store using the following link https://pgsboosters.itemorder.com/.

Shipments will be made from the store directly to the buyers. A portion of the proceeds will be paid to the Pisgah Athletic Boosters.

“Pisgah Athletic Boosters looks forward to hopefully resuming normal operations soon,” Pinkston said. “Obviously, like most organizations, our fundraising has been limited in 2020. We know that Pisgah Nation will be ready to support us as we move into, hopefully, an action-packed spring semester for our student athletes. Now, more than ever, it is important that we receive the financial support of the community.”
