In a game that put the Haywood Christian Academy Red Wolves down by 14 points at half time against Providence Academy of Johnson City, TN, the Wolves fought back and cut it 46-39 by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, HCA outscored Providence 12-4, taking the game into overtime.
In overtime, junior Peyton Holcombe had two big steals that were converted to points with Matthew Haynes and Holcombe both scoring.
With the game tied up, Holcombe took control of a rebound and passed it to junior Caleb Herbert, who took it down the length of the court to make a layup at the buzzer and win the game for his team, 62-60.
“We played a very good team,” said coach Mark Page. “We had a few setbacks but we overcame them. We stuck together as a team and our boys played hard.”
Matthew Haynes led the Wolves with 33 points, followed by Joel Page with 15 points and Caleb Herbert with eight points. Toby Crabtree led Providence with 17 points.
