Haywood County Veteran Services assists veterans and their dependents in applying for VA benefits such as total disability pension, service-connected compensation, educational and scholarship benefits, hospitalization and medical care, burial benefits, discharge upgrades, and VA low interest home and business loans.
Service officers file compensation and pension claims for veterans and widows of veterans. They also fill out most paperwork for the VA hospital, the Department of Defense, the state of North Carolina (license plate tags and hunting and fishing license forms, property tax), and Department of Veterans Affairs.
The office also coordinates trips back and forth to the VA hospital in Asheville through the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans.
For more information about any VA related program or to apply, call Haywood County Veterans Office at 828-452-6634. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
