LEND A HAND FOR THE PIGEON — A volunteer workday will help clean up trash along the Pigeon in time for summer fun on the water. Pictured are Jodi Mason and Alyssa Woods frolicking in the Pigeon River along the Canton greenway with their dog Bailey.
A volunteer workday to help cleanup the Pigeon River corridor through Canton will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 14.
The work outing is hosted by Haywood Waterways Association in conjunction with Pigeon River Outfitters. Tubes, kayaks and canoes will be provided free of charge on a first come basis, along with free shuttles around town or upstream to get you started on your cleanup float. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own boat as well.
Those who want to stick to dry land will work sections of the river bank.
Gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers and safety vests will be provided. Enjoy a discounted beverage at at BearWaters Brewing along the river in Canton following the cleanup.
Meet between 9 and 10 a.m. at Pigeon River Outfitters located at 13 Penland Street, Canton. RSVP by May 13 to Christine.haywoodwaterways@gmail.com or 828-476-4667 ext. 11.
