Love the new newspaper format

To the editor:

I just wanted to say how very much I have enjoyed the new Mountaineer! It is great to have a Wednesdy and Sunday edition. There is so much more to read and it is the perfect way to spend my Sunday. I have all weekend to read everything.

The Haywood County history articles are so interesting. The funny papers (comics) take me back to my childhood where we fought over that part of the paper. Now our children and grandchildren can do the same. There are other things for them to do in the paper as well. This is very educational and promotes newspaper reading habits that will follow them into adulthood.

The paper is so well laid out and has wonderful color within it. The ads look great. You can see and feel that is is a better newspaper from the front page to the last. I love everything about it. I thought it was good before, but The Mountaineer staff has really stepped it up.

The last thing I would like to say is that we are a little town, but I have always thought we had a mighty newspaper. The journalists are wonderful at reporting our stories. They do exactly what they are supposed to do. Report the story so that you will know what is going on. Then you can make an informed decision of how to feel about it. Then, on the opinion page they allow us to give our opinions and they can express their opinions also. It is exactly the way newspapers work.

The founders put things that they thought to be most important in the First Amendment. Freedom of the press was among those. This was done because they came from a place where their opinions could not be expressed free of reprisal or death.

First Amendment of the Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof: or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

So, in these times of uncertainty, I fully support our mighty newspaper, The Mountaineer and all the staff that make it work for our community. Fantastic job.

Thanks for the quick response

To the editor:

On behalf of myself, the landlord and the neighbors; I just wanted to thank Lake Logan Fire Chief Chad Plemmons and his team for a rapid and professional response to the propane leak at the house I’m renting on Arabian Point, on Jan. 29.

You folks were on site within moments and stayed until the gas company was able to safely secure the leaking tank and install a new one; and the entire team was gracious and professional.

As a somewhat new resident of Haywood County, and being retired military and retired law enforcement myself, I am grateful for the public safety professionals that I have met so far in this area.

God bless, and be safe out there.

Re-elect Trump

To the editor:

I am amazed that President Trump has taken so much abuse from the leftist Democratic Party. What they are pulling is disgusting.

There was a time when the Democratic Party backed to working-class patriotic Americans. Whatever happened to people like JFK in the party? Nancy P. has made a fool of herself and the party.

That includes presidential candidates of the Democratic Party. Not one of them deserve to be president. That includes the latest one he thinks he is going to buy the election. How can all the socialists in the party vote for a billionaire that is trying to buy their vote?

President Trump is accomplished so much more than other presidents in such a short time. Can you imagine what he could of accomplished without all the harassment? God bless him and his family.

Here’s who to impeach

To the editor;

This is a two sentence letter. Yoo-hoo, House and Senate. Would you all please pass a law that any rich, spoiled, lying, immoral, racist, narcissistic brat can be impeached from any elected office?
