WAYNESVILLE — Velma “Tup” Mehaffey Jones, 97, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2019.

She was born in Jackson County to the late James Albert and Maude Isabell Foster Mehaffey. She retired from Dayco after 36 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd George Jones who passed away in 2005, brothers, James Albert Mehaffey Jr. and Bill Mehaffey; and a sister, Ruby Mehaffey Arrington. She was also preceded in death by her furry companions, Tim, McDuffy, Raindrop and Buddy.

She is survived by her sister, Rena McGee of Old Fort, several nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbors, and lifelong friends and neighbors, Gil Carver of Waynesville and his children, Kimberly Carver and John Carver; granddaughter, Lily, all of Charlotte, and Betsy Carver and Jazzy “Sassy” of Anderson, South Carolina.

Funeral services for Velma will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Garrett Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow service at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
