CANTON — Shirley Ann Ballew Scott, 78, was carried home by the angels on Thursday, June 20, 2019.
Shirley was born April 20, 1941, in Buncombe County to the late Berlin Ballew and the late Mildred Williams Ballew. She had resided in Haywood County most of her life and had been employed as a certified nursing assistant at Canton Nursing Home and had also worked at PAXAR in Canton. Shirley loved working outdoors and especially keeping her lawn mowed perfectly. At night during the warm summer months she could be found going hunting for night crawlers and everyone in the family declares she was great at it! Also spending time at the family swimming pool was indeed fun times for Shirley and the entire family.
She loved her family and grandchildren with all her heart and they will always cherish the memory of their sweet “Granny.” Mrs. Scott was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and her faith was an important part of her life. Shirley was a beloved wife, loving mother and grandmother and we shall forever remember her kind and caring spirit that touched so many throughout her lifetime. We rejoice now knowing that Shirley is now in her Heavenly place of peace, joy and eternal happiness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Kelly Scott; her sisters, Patricia Allison and Ruth Penly; and her brothers, Mack, Frank, Everette and Richard Ballew.
Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, Clay Scott of Canton; her sons, Gary Scott and his wife, Lori of Lenoir, Phillip Scott of Waynesville and Jeffrey Scott and his wife, Renee, of Canton; grandchildren, Mandy Jones, Krista Jones, Kindley and Westin Scott, Jodie Solano, Jeremy Scott, Tabitha Scott and Storm Scott and Asia; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Annette Penland of Statesville; brothers, Anthony Ballew and David Ballew of Asheville and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2019, at Beaverdam Baptist Church. Pastor Gene Worley and Pastor Barry Clark will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Beaverdam Church Cemetery.
