WAYNESVILLE — Marjorie Woody Fisher, 88, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2022, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

Marjorie was born in Jackson County on Sept. 7, 1933, to the late Dr. William Harvey and Esther Barlow Woody. She enjoyed long walks, especially at Lake Junaluska, and spending holidays with her children.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, James Whitman; and sister, Betty Jean Buchanan.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Dr. Tamara Fisher Patsey of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Dan Woody Fisher of San José, California; sister, Joy Woody Hargette; nephews John Woody Hargette (Beth) and Paul Hudson Hargette (Andrea); and niece Deborah Mahaffey of Chapel Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Pastor Larry Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to offer special thanks to her caretakers Chloe Dills and Lisa Dills, and to especially Dean Heisler, who became her best friend and confidant and was with her when her own family could not be at her death.

The family would also like to extend thanks to her friend Darlene Davis who she trusted and depended upon.

Lastly, we would like to extend a very grateful thanks to Jeremy Fish, who for many years helped our mother around the house, so that she could continue to live at home.
