WAYNESVILLE — Katie Mitchell Nelson, 75, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

Katie was born in Haywood County on Sept. 13, 1945, to the late Norman and Georgia Davis Mitchell. She loved the Lord, spending time with her family and camping.

In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean “Sally” Inman; and her brother, George Mitchell.

Katie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Johnny Nelson, Sr.; sons, Roger Wood (Kathy) and Johnny “Little Johnny”) Nelson, Jr. (Ashley); daughter, Jill Mann (Steve); brother, Roger “Buggsy” Mitchell (Eleen) sisters, Mary Henson (Albert) and Beverly Buckner (Danny); sister-in-law, Pauline Mitchell; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
