Jackie Dean “J.D“ Mack, 75, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at his residence.
Dean was born Dec. 9, 1943, in Macon County to the late Tom and Ollie Mason Mack. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from General Electric.
Dean enjoyed logging from a young boy throughout his entire life. He was very generous and loved helping others achieve their goals.
Dean cared deeply for the Veterans of the Military. Vacationing with family and friends was something he looked forward to each year. He loved his family and grandkids dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Fleeta Sheehan Mack, of the home; sons Travis Mack and husband, Denis, of Hickory; Jacob Mack and wife, Michelle, of Hickory; daughter: Jini Mack Phillips and husband, Eric, of Conover; sister: Mary Mack Cooper, Waynesville and grandchildren Morgan Mack, Ashelin McCoy, Elysa McCoy and Logan Mack.
A service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 3 p.m. at North Newton Baptist Church with military honors by American Legion Post 16.
Bishop Don and Rev. Helen Bledsoe will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at North Newton Baptist Church.
