WAYNESVILLE — Hollis Price, 88, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
Hollis was born in Cocke County, Tennessee, Oct. 8, 1930, to the late Jesse Alex and Adeline Gates Price. Hollis was a true Appalachian man, who loved the mountains whether he was digging ginseng or fly-fishing for native trout in his favorite creeks, holding several regional records.
He enjoyed wild blackberry picking and farming, taking special pride in growing many varieties of quality fruits and vegetables.
In addition to his parents, Hollis was preceded in death by his wife, Hillis Rathbone Price; a son, Gerald Alex Price; son-in-law, Stan Rasmus and a brother, Lawrence Price.
Hollis is survived by his daughters, Jeanette Price and Joy Rasmus; and grandchildren, Amelia Jeanette Rasmus and Alex McKay.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations, with the Rev. Dr. Frank Harvey officiating.
Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Nephews and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
