BALSAM — Dorothy “Dot” L. Derrick, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehabilitation. Dot was born in Haywood County on March 15, 1933. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Phil and Nora Brooks. Dot was a devoted housewife and a loving mother.
She enjoyed quilting and making silver jewelry. Dot loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifetime member of Balsam Baptist Church.
In addition to her grandparents, Dot was preceded in death by her mother, Florence Coward; her husband of 66 years Lloyd “Penny” Derrick; and a daughter, Brenda Cagle.
Dot is survived by her daughter Doreen Jones and her husband Sam of Chester, South Carolina; granddaughter, Misty Ball and her husband, Alan; and her great-grandchildren, Ayla and Cameron Ball.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at Balsam Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Cullen officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Balsam Baptist Church General Fund.
