CANTON — Charles Mitchell McKinnish, 68, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, after a brief illness.
Charles was born in Haywood County on Nov. 29, 1952, to the late Neil C. McKinnish and Hiawatha Shook McKinnish.
Charles was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed mountain biking, tournament bass fishing, fly fishing, camping, water and snow skiing.
He also played golf and loved coaching little league baseball and served as the president of the Canton Little League. Charles had a passion restoring and showing street rods, especially his 1968 Z28 Camaro.
In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pollyanna Carver McKinnish; son, Mitchell McKinnish (Tiffany); daughter, Karri McKinnish (Cody Shook); grandson, Eli McKinnish; brothers, Doug McKinnish and Tim McKinnish (Caroline); sister, Kathy Sherrill (Dan); and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Charles’ life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Central United Methodist Church in Canton with the Rev. Erin Yow officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. COVID restrictions will be in effect and masks will be required for the visitation and funeral.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church at 34 Church St, Canton, NC 28761 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
