Becky Long was born in 1936 in Waynesville, North Carolina, to Robert M. And Ruth H. Long.

She left Waynesville in 1954 to work for the Office of Naval Intelligence, Department of the Navy and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Security Policy, Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., from where she retired.

She lived in nearby Northern Virginia and returned to Waynesville 45 years later in December 1999.

One sister, Nancy Long Schulhofer pre-deceased Becky and she is survived by one sister, Peggy Jo. Powell, and three nieces. Upon moving to Washington, DC, she was “adopted” by the Shaver family who became her family away from family.

Becky had several close wonderful friends including Becky Ramey and Terry Frady; Elizabeth Norris and Jeff Norris who were like family and mentors; and Maynard Anderson of Alexandria who was a close friend and supervisor.

She left this earth thanking the Lord for the great blessings He showered on her.

Without Him, she was nothing and could do nothing.

She wishes to be remembered for trying to do everything she could to help others and make life easier for friends and family.
