Barbara Kuykendall Griffin

CANTON β€” Barbara June Kuykendall Griffin, a beloved wife, a wonderful mother, great-grandmother, and dear sister, entered into her eternal heavenly home Friday, July 16, 2021.

Barbara was blessed with 82 years of a wonderful life. She was born Sept. 16, 1938 in Eden, North Carolina to the late Claude Kuykendall and the late Elsie Queen Kuykendall. She had made her home in Haywood County most of her life and she had truly devoted her life to her Lord and her family. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she had served as the church organist for more than 20 years. Mrs. Griffin had been a Sunday school teacher, a training union leader and she also reached out to new Christian members of the church as a faith teacher. She was a kind and gracious lady and Barbara always made everyone feel welcome to the Griffin home. She was indeed a wonderful cook and her delicious pumpkin pies and her homemade biscuits were favorites of everyone. Barbara was always thinking of others and her heart runneth over with goodness and love. In the words of her family, β€œShe was a stellar mom, a giving lady, a true humanitarian and an example for each of us to follow throughout our lives.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy Lessley Griffin, who passed away in 2017, and her brother, Bruce Kuykendall.

Surviving are her sons, Les Griffin and Lisa of Canton and Mark Griffin of Canton; grandchildren, Autumn and Bailey Griffin, Walker Griffin, Austin Griffin and Kaity; great-grandchildren, Laylen Hines and Aubrey Griffin; a sister, Peggy Shepherd and Eugene of Canton; and many dear friends.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Pastor Eddie Deitz and Dr. Perry Brindley officiated. Burial followed in Longs Community Cemetery, Coffee Branch Road in Canton.
