CANTON — Ann Cook Stamey, 77, a kind and loving mother and grandmother, entered into her glorious heavenly home on Friday, July 26, 2019.

Ann was born Jan. 21, 1942, in Cumberland County to the late Frank Lawrence Cook and the late Mila Brown Cook.

Mrs. Stamey had been employed as an office assistant with Union Butterfield in Asheville where she retired with many years of dedicated service.

Her love for her children and grandchildren brought great joy into her life and in the words of her family “We were blessed to have Granny to love and care for us during our lives.”

Ann loved spending time outdoors and she could often be found sitting quietly in the sun, taking walks with her children and also working in her garden.

Her faith was an important part of her life and she attended Morning Star United Methodist Church.

Ann blessed her family in ways that they shall never forget. She was their pillar of strength, a shoulder to cry on, always giving the perfect advice, a happy ray of sunshine in their lives and also an inspiration for each of them to always be the best that they could be. “We love you Granny — always.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Stamey, a man who was a wonderful and awesome Papaw to his grandchildren and who passed away in 2011, and her husband Gary Mercer, who passed away in 1988; her sisters, Betty Scott, Louise Willis and Virginia Wright and her brothers, Ralph Cook and Lawrence Cook.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Allison Jackson and her husband, Mike of Canton and Michael Bret Wright of Candler; grandchildren, Colby Jackson and his wife, Kristin of Charlotte and Cayli Shae Jackson of Canton; a brother, Frank Cook and his wife, Joan of Asheville and a very special friend and neighbor, Bill Wright of Canton.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Stamey will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Morning Star United Methodist Church. Pastor Nicole Jones will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Stamey family and words of comfort may be shared at
