WAYNESVILLE — Martha Jane Rathbone Conard, age 69, a dear and beloved mother and wife, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019.

Martha was born February 12, 1950 in Haywood County to the late Dewey Grooms and the late Clarce Rathbone Carver.

She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, a devoted homemaker and will forever be remembered as a loving wife and mother.

Mrs. Conard was a faithful Christian and was a member of Crabtree Baptist Church and had also attended Pentecostal Temple Church of God. Martha was blessed with a loving and caring heart and she was an example for us to follow as she lived a devoted Christian life each and everyday.

In the words of her family, “Martha loved everyone and she was the best Mom ever.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Selena Leshae Conard; her twin brother, Allen Rathbone; and her sisters, Betty Fowler and Nancy Henson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, William “Bud” Conard of Waynesville; her sons, William Loyd Conard and Kay of Waynesville and Mark Conard and Pamela of Waynesville; grandchildren, Tasha Sherlin and Jonah, Joe Conard and Ashlyn, Austin Conard, Annie Smith, Holly Bass, Kyle Bass and Tyler Conard; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Conard, Timothy Sherlin and Mia Sherlin; a niece and nephew who were loved and raised just as her own children, Elizabeth Conard and James and Darlene Rhodarmer; also a special nephew, Stevie Rathbone and several other nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Pastor Rodney Henson and Pastor Dennis Queen will be officiating. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home, 81 Lindera Lane, Waynesville, North Carolina, 28785.
