GRIEVING FAMILY — Kimberly Freeman, Chloe and Aurora Evans’ grandmother, holds a sign commemorating the children high during a rally held earlier this year.

One case that captured the county’s attention involved the horrific death of 10-month-old Chloe Evans.

The girl was originally transported to the hospital on July 18 after paramedics responded to a cardiac arrest. She died shortly after, and it wasn’t long before the death was determined to be a homicide.

Within a month, a Haywood County Grand Jury indicted Chloe’s mother’s boyfriend, Dylan Brian Green on one count of felony child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

The indictment revealed the depth of her injuries and details of the alleged ongoing abuse, including the fact that Chloe had methamphetamine in her system at the time of her death.

Although Green has still not been charged with anything directly related to Chloe’s death, that possibility still exists.

“Detectives are working closely with the district attorney’s office and the state medical examiner’s office on a daily basis as they continue to investigate and develop this case,” a Haywood County Sheriff’s Office press release sent out at the time of Green’s indictment reads.
