An Asheville woman is facing several criminal charges after striking multiple pedestrians with her vehicle at a rest stop in Haywood County.
Jennifer Marie Kuykendall is facing both drug and traffic charges after allegedly striking four people with the 2002 BMW she was driving at the westbound rest stop on I-40 between the 10 and 11 mile markers.
North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Conner responded to the call at 8:46 a.m. Thursday. Conner said that of the four people who were hit, two were children under the age of 16. While those children weren’t too seriously hurt, Conner noted that a woman sustained more severe injuries.
“They were checking to see if she had a broken hip and a bad laceration on the arm that cut it down to the bone,” he said.
Kuykendall also allegedly hit two cars. She was ultimately charged with four drug-related charges, including possession of methamphetamine, Xanax and drug paraphernalia; driving while impaired; and reckless driving.
