A Waynesville woman has been arrested and charged with trying to hire a man to kill her husband.
Yvonne Wadham, 69, was arrested on Jan. 28 after allegedly attempting to solicit an undercover deputy in commission of the murder of John Wadham, who is known to most as Jack.
The Waynesville Police Department handled the undercover operation to investigate the solicitation crime.
“An undercover officer from outside the immediate area was brought in to assist in the investigation,” he said.
In December, Yvonne Wadham obtained a domestic violence protective order against her husband, who currently has pending charges for violating the order with a deadly weapon, communicating threats and attempted breaking and entering.
Yvonne Wadham had no criminal record in North Carolina prior to her arrest but is now facing a Class C felony, the minimum sentence for which is more than six years.
She was initially held on $100,000 bond, a number set by a magistrate. After she paid to get out of jail, however, that bond was determined to be invalid — only a judge may set a bond within 48 hours of the arrest in incidents involving husband and wife. Her bond was revoked, and she was arrested the next day and is still being held.
Wadham is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 13. Waynesville Police Chief Bill Hollingsed said the investigation is still ongoing.
