mill workers

FINAL ROLL — A crew of mill workers poses with the last full roll of paper to come off the #19 paper machine, the main workhorse of the Canton paper mill operation.

Due to pending budget votes in Washington, D.C. this week, U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards has rescheduled the “Canton Strong – Looking Forward” forum that was to be held Tuesday.

The new date will 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, when Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant will visit Canton to meet with town leaders and discuss the successful transformation of his community after the closure of the town’s Pillowtex Corp. mill in 2003 — the single largest mass layoff in North Carolina history.
