A man who died in Hazelwood Thursday afternoon has been identified.
According to a press release sent out by the Waynesville Police Department, the body that was found in a creek in the neighborhood was Phillip N. Bowden.
"At this time, we're conducting a death investigation," Lt. Chris Chandler, who heads up Waynesville's Criminal Investigations Division (CID) said Thursday.
The press release said that around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 1, WPD took a missing person’s report on Bowden from his wife, who said the last time he was seen was the evening of Jan. 30.
“When Phillip didn’t show up to work, his wife and co-workers knew something was wrong because he loved his job,” the report said
Then, on Feb. 1 at about 4:30 p.m., WPD received a call from someone who reported finding a dead body in the creek on Hazelwood Ave near the 500 block. Police, fire, and EMS were immediately dispatched to the area, where they found Bowden’s body in the creek beside the sidewalk.
The report said that the missing person’s investigation translated into a death investigation at that point. An autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death.
