A Waynesville man has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to his living room in the presence of his two young children.
Edward Tyler Sutton, 23, was booked at the Haywood County Detention Center in the early morning hours of Sept. 30 after allegedly starting the fire on Sept. 29.
According to court documents, Sutton “did wantonly set fire to the dwelling house of which the defendant was the occupant” at 180 Ridgewood Drive in Waynesville. In addition, it is alleged that Sutton’s children, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old, were present and that Sutton did “create and allow a substantial risk of physical injury upon [the children] other than accidental means by setting a fire in the living room.”
Sutton was charged with one felony count of fraudulently burning a dwelling and two misdemeanor counts of child abuse.
Sutton has faced charges of injury to personal property and simple assault in the past, as well as a marijuana charge. In addition, he currently has a pending felony larceny charge in Haywood County.
He was issued a $7,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14.
