Maggie Valley has a new alderwoman.
At the town’s board meeting Jan. 14, immediately following a series of interviews with five applicants, it was decided that Twinkle Patel would serve in the seat vacated by Mike Eveland when he was elected mayor.
Eveland had praise for all of the applicants, and spoke about each one briefly.
“There were five excellent candidates, but we have to pick one,” he said.
Alderman Phillip Wight agreed.
“It’s obvious the passion these five have for the valley,” he said, noting that his two top picks were Patel and Evans Duncan.
“If you put their names in a hat, I’m OK with that,” he said.
“Those two do have some very good strengths they bring to the board,” Alderman Clayton Davis said.
Wight ultimately made the motion to accept Twinkle Patel onto the board of alderman, a motion that was met with unanimous support.
According to her application, Patel has lived in Maggie Valley for 14 years. She is the chief executive officer of Milestone Hospitality and has worked in the hospitality industry for about a decade and a half.
She also currently serves on the 1% Maggie Valley TDA subcommittee.
Patel said that she is happy to further serve the community her family has been so involved in for so many years.
“I’m very excited and glad to be able to give my time and energy to the town,” she said.
Patel will take office next month.
