FAMILY TRADITION — Members of the Wilson family have gathered at the same spot for the Labor Day parade for at least 56 years. That won't happen this year with the Canton parade cancelation due to COVID-19 rules.

Continued vigilance is needed 

The number of positive cases have settled in at 4-6 per day, but health officials would like that number to be tamped back to June's 2-3 per day or lower. Just as the July 4 family and friend gatherings led to a spike in cases, health officials fear the Labor Day holiday could do the same if people aren't careful. Read more here.

Waynesville Recreation Center opens Tuesday

Even though fitness center capacity is limited to 30 percent, the language stipulates that means fire safety capacity. That means centers with large gymnasiums have a lot of leeway since the capacity includes the maximum number of folks who can crowd in to watch a game. Haywood Regional fitness center will operate under a phased-in reopening
