The outdoor pantries in Haywood are holding a fundraiser to collect food for the Head Start kids’ Easter break.
Because of overwhelming response, the drawing will now be hosted by The Dog House at 310 N. Haywood St. in Waynesville, will be now hosting the event.
Between now and March 28, individuals can bring $5 or a food item to The Dog House to fill the Easter wish list found on the Haywood’s Outdoor Pantries Facebook page.
Outdoor pantries are located at 489 Pigeon St., in Waynesville; 384 Jones Cove Road in Clyde and 4077 Soco Road in Maggie Valley. The pantries are stocked with food and toiletry items and are always open. Individuals can drop items off, or take what they need.
The goal of the pre-Easter drawing is to gather enough food for 147 families, said Kitty Currin, who is organizing the event.
The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. March 28 and entrants do not have to be available to win.
There will be one winner per prize and so far, about two dozen prizes are available. Individuals are encouraged to donate often, which will increase their chance of winning, Currin said.
