Fines Creek high-speed internet initiative

HIGH-SPEED — Citizens of Fines Creek and other communities are working to strengthen internet speeds in the community.

The Fines Creek High-Speed Internet Initiative is a group of interested individuals based out of the Fines Creek Community Center.

Group members are working with the Haywood County Broadband Committee (HCBC) to bring more high-speed internet options to the Crabtree, Upper Crabtree, Panther Creek and Fines Creek communities.

The HCBC has partnered with the Educational and Research Consortium of Western Carolinas, Inc. (ERC) to submit a grant to the Appalachian Regional Commission to expand high-speed internet in local communities.

The grant application requires support letters from businesses such as short-term rentals, farms, stores, home-based business and any other businesses.

The letters should describe how each business is hindered by the lack of high-speed internet and include as much detail as possible. The letters should be specific and describe lost business opportunities, inability to advertise, lost sales, bookings lost, inability to use cloud-based software for inventory and accounting and any other issues related to lack of high-speed internet.

The deadline for support letters is July 20, 2020. Send the letters by email to or call 828-627-2186 for more information about this grant and the application.

Informational banners regarding the initiative have been placed in key locations in these communities to encourage support by businesses.
