This billboard sits along I-40 between Waynesville and Asheville, heading east, honors Austin Gayne, who lost his life after being struck by a driver.

Every 4.5 days, a first responder is struck by a vehicle on a roadside in America. A Haywood County woman is on a mission to raise awareness for ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ laws.

After Brook Lawerence’s son was killed in a roadside accident while working as a tow truck driver, she turned her grief into activism — founding the nonprofit Austin Strong SDMO Awareness.
