With COVID-19 discontinuing the Haywood County Public Library’s in-house storytime for preschoolers, librarians Deanna Lyles (Canton Branch) and Lisa Hartzell (Waynesville Branch) have gotten creative and are providing Virtual Storytime to children.

For the past three months, the two have been holding two virtual storytimes a week, alternating who presents each time. Some books that have been read are Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall, which also featured an interview with some of the Canton Pool lifeguards, Again by Emily Gravett and a retelling of Little Red Hen from Lisa Hartzell.

In August, the virtual storytimes will switch to being available once a week, instead of two times. The Haywood County Public Library is conducting a survey for parents and children to gauge the opinion of those who view the Virtual Storytime videos and that survey will be available the first week of August on the Haywood County Public Library’s website.

In accordance with publisher guidelines, virtual storytimes can be accessed by visiting Haywood County Public Library’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/HaywoodCountyPublicLibrary to receive a link to the virtual storytime and see the schedule for upcoming virtual storytimes. The virtual storytimes for the month of August will be available on Thursday of each week.
