Bethel Professional Building

IN PROGRESS — The Bethel Professional Center has not yet opened, but has already generated widespread speculation in the community about potential problems that could develop.

Neighbors of a new one-stop-shop for people who are homeless, poor, drug users or struggling with mental health are concerned it will bring an influx of unsavory characters into their community, and they aren’t the only ones keeping an eye on the situation.

“We have certainly been made aware and our police department has been made aware of people hanging out, sleeping on the porch, and making the neighbors very uncomfortable,” said Waynesville Development Services Director Elizabeth Teague.
