A Haywood County Sheriff’s deputy has resigned after being charged with a DWI.
Seth Brown, who was off duty and worked in the HCSO patrol division, was traveling on Black Camp Gap Road on Jan. 12 when the 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving veered off the road to the right, flipped and came to a stop in a creek, said N.C. Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Scott Smith.
“Over the course of the trooper’s investigation, it was determined Mr. Brown was impaired,” Smith said. “He was arrested and transported to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.”
Brown ultimately blew a .09, and the legal limit is .08. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt. He also subsequently resigned from his law enforcement role.
Haywood Count Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Lindsay Regner said Brown had been employed by the office since 2011 and resigned on Jan. 13.
