A 76-year-old Hyder Mountain man is dead, his son is wounded, and another son is charged in his father’s stabbing death and attempting to kill his brother.

Haywood County Sheriff’s Office Lindsay Regner said Marion Jones, 76, called 9-1-1 at 10 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 18, reporting he had been stabbed. His breathing was labored, she added.

Haywood County Deputies and emergency medical services responded to a residence on Long Branch Road in the Hyder Mountain community in reference to the emergency stabbing.

Upon arrival, deputies learned Hunter Jones sustained serious stab wounds and his father, Marion Jones, was deceased.

Jody Jones, 26, has been charged with felony murder and felony attempted murder.

Jody Jones initially refused to exit the housebut deputies used verbal de-escalation measures, and the suspect was arrested without incident, Regner said.
