A Marion man already facing a felony assault charge has been hit with another felony after breaking the overhead fire sprinkler in his cell.
Jimmy Dean Hollifield, 42, was first arrested by Haywood County Sheriff’s Deputies on Dec. 28, after allegedly assaulting a woman with a claw hammer inflicting serious injury. Then, the following day on Dec. 29, he was charged with interfering with the detention center’s fire system when he allegedly broke the sprinkler.
According to a statement put out by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:30 a.m. that morning, detention officers heard a “loud water noise” coming from a cell.
”After responding to the area of the noise, officers observed water coming from under the cell,” that statement reads. “It was discovered Jimmy Dean Hollifield had climbed on top of his bed and busted the sprinkler head. Hollifield was moved to a different cell and was charged with felony interfere jail fire system.”
Although Hollifield is from McDowell County, his criminal record in the state is fairly extensive as he has been charged in the past with larcenies and various assaults, including assault on a female.
Hollifield is currently being held on $50,000 bond.
