NC-11 Candidate Forum

  • 0

North Carolina's 11th Congressional District Candidate Forum was recorded in Waynesville on May 20, 2020, sponsored by The Mountaineer, The Sylva Herald and The Cherokee One Feather.

Republicans Lynda Bennett of Haywood County and Madison Cawthorn from Henderson County were the top two vote-getters in the March primary election, but in a field of 12 candidates, neither secured the necessary 30 percent for the win. A runoff race on June 23 will determine who represents the Republican party against the Democratic nominee, Moe Davis of Buncombe county.

Residents who are registered Republicans, or who are unaffiliated and chose the Republican ballot in March, as well as unaffiliated voters who did not cast a ballot in March are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

Absentee ballots to vote by mail can be requested through your local board of elections through June 16; early absentee voting begins June 4, so check your local newspaper to see dates, places and times or voters can wait until Election Day and vote on June 23.

Both candidates were invited to participate in this forum but Bennett declined the offer.

Special thanks to Paul Yeager for some of the footage toward the end of the video.
