LET LOOSE — Program supervisor Tim Petrea believes Base Camp on the Go’s biggest virtue is its focus on fun. Said Petrea: “Everyone is welcome to come out. We treat it like a festival. Kids can just show up and have a great time.” Petrea picked up the idea for Base Camp on the Go while attending a national parks and recreation conference in New Orleans.

A traveling recreation program called Base Camp on the Go from the Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department began its summer tour June 10.

There are activities like log rolling, Zorb balls and much more. The program is totally free for everyone.

Base Camp on the Go will be present at the following locations, days and times:

• Waynesville Recreation Center on Mondays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

• Canton Town Park on Tuesdays from noon to 2 p.m.

• Fines Creek on Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m.

• Waynesville Recreation Center on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon.

The program will continue until school starts.
