The Rev. Peter J. Jugis, Bishop of Charlotte, visited St. John the Evangelist and St. Margaret’s Catholic churches to install new pastors for each parish, in ceremonies Oct. 26 and 27.
The Rev. Paul McNulty was installed as pastor for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesville and its mission church, Immaculate Conception Church, in Canton. The Rev. Christopher Bond was installed as pastor of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, in Maggie Valley.
The installation ceremonies included reading the diocesan letter of appointment, outlining the assignment as pastor and detailing the pastor’s responsibilities of teaching and pastoral governance of the parish.
The priests made verbal professions of faith to all assembled for the installations.
Witnesses, representing the parish, signed the official documents from the diocese.
The bishop asked the priests to join him as he walked around the church, pointing out places in the church significant to the ministry as pastor, including doors to the church, baptismal font, reconciliation room, altar and tabernacle and the ambo (lectern).
The regular order of the Mass continued, with several clergy attending assisting.
Bishop Jugis stressed that the new pastors should model their ministry after Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
