The fall semester of Music Makers, flagship music education program offered by First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, starts Sept. 11.

The program is designed for children ages kindergarten through fifth grade. The program brings more than 100 children to the church each Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 5:30 p.m. to participate in a graded curriculum that teaches children musical appreciation and literacy.

While the curriculum centers on choral singing, students also receive instruction on a variety of instruments including drums, ukuleles, dulcimers, hand chimes and handbells.

Church volunteers pick students up from elementary schools in the county, including Junaluska Elementary, Jonathan Valley Elementary, Clyde Elementary, Riverbend Elementary, Bethel Elementary and Meadowbrook Elementary.

School buses drop students off if they attend Hazelwood Elementary or Shining Rock Classical Academy.

Register in advance online. Contact the church office at 828-456-9475 with any questions.
