PRAYING FOR PEACE — The Revs. Peter Constantian, Cole Altizer and Brandon Lazarus are shown during the prayer ceremony held in Maggie Valley this fall.

The Rev. Brandon Lazarus, pastor of Morning Star United Methodist Church of Canton, will preach at the first of a series of Lenten Worship Services at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.

The service may be seen on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/CantonFirstBaptistChurch.

Lazarus arrived in Canton in July of 2020, after serving as the senior pastor of Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

He holds an M. Div. from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. His wife, Georgie, is a mental health counselor. Their daughter, Noely, just turned 3.

Lenten services are a time of reflection on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and hearing his call to follow him in our lives. These services have been held in Canton each year since 1990.

Different ministers from churches in Canton and the surrounding area will preach for half an hour each Thursday, concluding on Maundy April 1.

The Rev. Todd Donatelli, Rector of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Canton, will conduct the service on Feb. 25.
