Dr. Mallory Smith, a graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, has joined the staff of the Animal Hospital of Waynesville.
Smith, who started on Monday, June 10, makes the sixth veterinarian in the clinic.
Smith received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of South Florida, and did post-graduate work at Clemson University before obtaining her degree in veterinary medicine.
She will join Dr. Morgan Plemmons, supervisory managing vet and the other doctors at the clinic.
Although she was raised in the greater Tampa Bay area, Smith spent vacations in the mountains.
“My passion for animal health started while spending a summer rehabilitating injured and sick endangered sea turtles and then working with dogs and cats as a veterinary nurse for a few years,” Smith said. “My favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are preventative care, dentistry, internal medicine, and simply nurturing the human-animal bond, but I love absolutely everything and love to learn new things.”
Smith and her husband moved to the mountains to be closer to family, for the seasons and the culture.
“We have two older dogs named Ox and Panda, and one tabby cat…named Cat,” she said. “I consider myself a little bit of a foodie, love cooking and trying new recipes, and appreciate a good dark chocolate.”
The Animal Hospital of Waynesville is a gold-standard hospital accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, a gold-level cat friendly practice certified by the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and has just completed the final steps for being a certified as a Fear Free practice with many staff members having completed personal certification.
