Three Tuscola High School students were honored as Rotary Students of the Month at the Rotary luncheon Jan. 17 at Laurel Ridge Country Club: Josie Garner, Kennan Huskison and Isabella Hendershot.
Josie Bennett Garner, a senior at Tuscola High School, was named Rotary Student of the Month for January. She is the daughter of Ben and Amy Garner.
Her honors and awards include Scholar Athlete Award, Coaches’ Choice, Junior Marshall, Health Science 1 student of the year award.
At Tuscola, she is active in HOSA, FCA, National Honor Society, varsity cheerleading, HOSA treasurer and NHS treasurer.
Outside of school, Garner is a member of Antioch Baptist Church and serves as a nursery worker at the church.
After graduation, Garner plans to attend a four-year university and major in health sciences.
Tuscola High School senior Kennan Huskison was named Rotary Student of the Month for January. He is the son of Mitch and Christi Huskison.
His honors and awards include: XC Coaches’ award, Junior Marshall and National Honor Society.
At Tuscola, he is active in jazz band, math club, cross country, track, being a snowboard instructor, youth choir and a member of the National Honor Society.
Outside of school, Huskison is a member of the First Baptist Church youth group.
After graduation, Huskison plans to attend a four-year university and study architecture or civil engineering.
Isabella (Izzy) Hendershot, a senior at Tuscola High School, was named Rotary Student of the Month for January. She is the daughter of Don and Denise Hendershot.
Her honors and awards include: Freshman female athlete of the year, NSHSS Honors Scholar, Junior Marshall, and women’s high school to 10 state finisher in high jump.
At Tuscola, she is a student athlete, participating in XC, tennis, track and soccer, and a member of the National Honor Society.
Outside of school, Hendershot has been a Folkmoot guide for four years, caregiver at First Presbyterian Church and a ski instructor at Cataloochee Ski Area.
After graduation, Hendershot plans to study at a four-year university and pursue a major in strategic communications and a minor in Spanish.
