There has been a lot of attention over the last several years regarding the plight of honey bees and other pollinators. The loss of honey bee colonies continues even now.

With good management practices, however, this hive loss can be lessened. To learn about honey bees and the practical steps it takes to establish and maintain honey bee hives through the first year, consider attending the Beginning Beekeeping Class.

This full day class will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

In this class, the basics of beekeeping will be covered, from what kind of honeybees to get, to where to locate them, how to manage them and how to harvest honey.

The cost is $40 per person.

The class will be held at the Haywood County Extension Center, 589 Raccoon Road, Waynesville, NC, 28786.

Pre-registration deadline is Feb. 6. Call the Haywood Extension Center at 456-3575 to register.
