The Canton Educational Foundation will host its annual Christmas Tour of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 1-5 p.m., featuring several historic homes that have been layered with Christmas trees, vintage decor and all the holiday glitz one can imagine.
The holiday event was created as a fundraiser for the Canton Educational Foundation so that the Miss Labor Day Pageant could offer scholarships.
The annual Miss Labor Day Pageant in Canton provides $1,500, $1,000 and $500 scholarships to its top three pageant contestants each year. But without proceeds from the holiday tour, it would not be possible.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us through the years,” said Sherri Moss, chair of the Canton Tour of Homes committee. “All of the money raised from The Christmas Tour of Homes goes to the scholarship for Miss Labor Day. Without the community support, we would not be able to put on Miss Labor Day on and give out three scholarships.”
All of the featured homes will have a sign out front identifying the homes that will be open and they can be toured in any order on Dec. 8.
This year, the tour features eight homes and several businesses in downtown Canton that will be open for shopping during the tour.
“Each house is of course different with themes ranging from farmhouse to traditional,” Moss said.
New this year, Ana Henry in Dutch Cove will be decorating her Air B&B / General Store for the tour and it will be on display along with a restored vintage camper.
Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at any of the houses or at the Canton Historical Museum. They may also be purchased the day of the tour. Children 10 and younger are free.
“A huge thanks to the home owners who are opening up their homes and sharing their Christmas decor with the community,” Moss said. “That’s a lot of hard work and please know how much we appreciate it.”
The Canton Educational Foundation is currently seeking participants for the 2020 Tour of Homes. Anyone who wishes to join next year’s tour or help the committee should email Sherri Moss at firstname.lastname@example.org.
