As one of Ray McManus at USC Sumter, I had the unique opportunity to meet the infinitely author David Joy. To be honest, this was the first time I have been truly starstruck which is saying something for someone who grew up in southern California and Las Vegas. Even though our conversation was brief, I am incredibly grateful for having had the opportunity to meet this incredibly humble yet talented author. I would highly encourage anyone to go and see this man and pick his brain because, through my very brief interaction with him, he truly is the epitome of the great southern author. His books are truly gritty and incredibly detailed, with a language that envelops you in every scene. I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank both Ray McManus who is an amazing poet in his own right, for inviting him and, of course David Joy himself for sitting through what I'm sure was a very dry and excruciating class discussion. If either of them are reading this, just know, it was a truly life changing event for me.
